Hello everyone,
Today, I'm excited to share an incredibly useful rigging method – the「Ribbon Setup」!! I know out there with this method is already considered basic and has been used for a long time. It might also be familiar to many riggers, but I believe there are some interesting nuances within the setup that are definitely worth sharing.
My entire process of learning this setup was mostly guided by various experts in the field. Jorn-Harald Paulsen, renowned for his powerful「Procedural Ribbon」setup, mainly provided me an invaluable insight. Additionally, James Thompson's rigging tutorial from a decade ago also showcased the methods of this technique, and I've also learned and drawn inspiration from Alex Mann's unique approach.
As I delved into the learning process, I combined them from these sources to create a comprehensive showcase of the results, but I've omitted certain setup details involving deformers, as they follow the same method of creation inside some of the setups shown in the video.
I encourage to explore the「Ribbon Setup」further, experiment with these concepts, and discover how they can elevate your rigging. Let's see what kinds of setup there are.
1. Basic FK/IK - Hybrid IK/FK setup.
2. Net - Basic Nurbs only.
3. Bend - Simply DFM setup.
4. Twist - Simply DFM setup.
5. Wave - Simply DFM setup.
6. Wire : Regular - Simply DFM setup.
8. Slide - Setup by nodes.
9. Extrude : Rising - Setup by nodes.
11. Floating Scale - Simply DFM setup.
23. Ramp - Expression.
24. Variable FK - Multiple nodes combination.
